PHA (Polyhydroxyalkanoate) is a biopolymer produced naturally by microorganisms from renewable feedstocks like vegetable oil. Unlike conventional plastics or most compostable materials, PHA breaks down in a wide range of natural environments — including soil, freshwater, and marine settings — without requiring industrial composting infrastructure. It is one of the few materials that is both home compostable and marine biodegradable.
