New York State and New York City have enacted significant packaging legislation that affects nearly every food service operator in the state.

New York State Plastic Bag Ban (Effective 2020): New York State prohibits single-use plastic carryout bags at most retail stores and food service establishments statewide.

New York City Expanded Polystyrene (EPS/Foam) Foam Ban: New York City prohibits the use of expanded polystyrene foam cups, containers, and packing peanuts by food service establishments. Businesses must use alternative materials — including fiber, paper, or certified compostable options.

New York City Composting Requirements: New York City has moved toward mandatory composting programs, with commercial composting requirements expanding for restaurants and food businesses. Products that are Certified Compostable and ASTM D6400 compliant are accepted at NYC-area commercial composting facilities. Non-certified products labeled "compostable" may be rejected.  All Green Pond Packaging products meet ASTM D6400 standards.

PFAS in Food Packaging: New York State has moved to restrict PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in food contact materials. All products carried by Green Pond Packaging are free from added PFAS, meeting current and anticipated New York regulatory requirements.
